I took Life Lessons from My Father to the Bill Cosby book signing at Hue Man Book Store in Harlem last night. When I got up to his signing table, I said to him, "I'm another July the 12th kid." He laughed aloud and replied, "Well, put'er ther 'pardner," and reached out to shake my hand. He signed his book for me and I handed him a copy of LL, where upon he shouted, "I've got this book!" He repeated that twice and added that LL is wonderful. Now, how about that for an evening out? The mass of folks standing around him wanted to know what book that he was shouting about and I showed them and ended selling the handfull of books that I took over and handing out thirty of forty add pieces: book marks, calling cards and post cards.
Prior to that, as I walked in to take my seat, a lady who got LL at the Harlem Book Fair saw me and waved, announcing as she did so that she had read LL and loved it and that it was wonderful too.
I even got a seat on the subway during the late rush. What a night!!
Joi Johnson, my niece from Fort Wayne, Indiana is vising NYC and I went over to take her shopping and to have lunch which we enjoyed greatly. I found her a beautiful winter coat and a nice rain coat too. She is at Hotel W on Park Avenue South. A lovely hotel that was new to me, proof that you learn something new in Manhattan every time that you go over there. We lunched at La Boite en Bois and drove through Central Park afterward.
